Good questions. I suppose there was initially a military justification for NASA with regard to satellites or even potential weapon systems in space. But those arguments are much weaker or even irrelevant today after the fall of the Soviet empire. What is the point now of spending billions of our tax dollars so a few "adrenaline junkies" can float above the earth for a few days? What is the benefit?
